 Edith Mae Phelps, 84, of Wilburton, OK, passed away Friday, June 5th, at Sparks Regional Medical Center, Ft. Smith,  County, Ar. 

Edith was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on January 4, 1931, a daughter of the late Dorotha Mae (Stephens) and Elza  Gill.

She worked in child care at head start.

She attended Church of God of Prophecy Quinton, OK . 

 

She was the wife of Thurman Leroy Phelps, Sr.. On December 22, 1945, they were married at Wilburton, Oklahoma. 

Edith is  survived by 
three daughters, Mary, wife of  Dale Breeding, of Heavener, Oklahoma; 
Thelma McCullough, of Union City, Oklahoma; 
Carolyn Coil, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; 
three sons Thurman Leroy, husband of  Jo Phelps, Jr., of Wilburton, Oklahoma; Walter, husband of  Betty Phelps, of McAlester, Oklahoma; Ronald, husband of Tedra Phelps, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; 
 

Edith is also survived by 
a brother, Donald Gill, of Seminole, Oklahoma. 
 

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leroy Gill; sister, Lilly Fargo; son, Raymond Edward Phelps; grandson, Billy Gene Phelps.

She is also survived by 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren

 

Services at The Bob Waldrop Memorial Chapel, Wilburton, Oklahoma, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10th,  with Rev. C. W. Stoneburner and Mr. Glen Kendrick officiating.

 Lawrence Monroe Lay, 71, of Wilburton, OK, passed away Friday, June 5th, at McAlester Regional Hospital, Mcalester, Pittsburg County. 

Lawrence was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on September 14, 1943, a son of the late Thelma (Wilson) and Calvin Cecil Lay.

He worked as a carpenter.

He attended Gowen Baptist Church Gowen, OK . 

 

He was the widower of Velma  (Freeman) Lay. On January 24, 1964, they were married at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Velma passed away August 12, 2004. 

Lawrence is  survived by 
a daughter, Tammy, wife of  Clark Boling, of Gowen, Oklahoma; 
a son,Gary, husband of  Carli Lay, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; 
 

Lawrence is also survived by 
two sisters, Wanda, wife of  Jim Ryan, of Pittsburg, Oklahoma; Betty, wife of  Matt Trench, of Norman, Oklahoma. 
four brothers, Bobby, husband of  Shali Lay, of McLoud, Oklahoma; Donnie, husband of  Pat Lay, of McLoud, Oklahoma; Ronnie Lay, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; Don, husband of  Sue Lay, of Moore, Oklahoma; 
 

Preceded in death by his parents, son Walter Lay, 2 sisters, wife Velma Lay.

He is also survived by Grandchildren:  Brittany Goff, of Stigler, Oklahoma; Charlie Martin, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma; Triston Boling, of Gowen, Oklahoma; Jeremy Lay, of Wilburton, Oklahoma.  4 Great Grandchildren.

 

Services at Centerpoint Baptist Chruch , Wilburton, OK, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8th,  with Rev. Willard Francis and Rev. Bud Vinson officiating.

 Jerry  Pitts

 Jerry Pitts, 70, of Wilburton, OK, passed away Sunday, May 31st, at his residence. . 

Jerry was born in Blounts Town, Florida on March 15, 1945, a son of the late Bernice (Sapp) and Walter  Pitts.

He worked as a truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Marines. 

He was the husband of Valerie  (Hinson) Pitts. On May 14, 2008, they were married at Wilburton, Oklahoma. 

Jerry is  survived by 
a daughter, Penny Sergent, of Covington, Kentucky; 
a son,Jimmy Allen Pitts, of Florence, Kentucky; 
 

Jerry is also survived by 
four sisters, Florice Keaver, of Blounts Town, Florida; Ann French, of Blounts Town, Florida; Mary Atkins, of Blounts Town, Florida; Lizzie, wife of  George Flowers, of Bristol, Kentucky. 
 

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Jake Pitts, grandparents.

He is also survived by Two grandsons: Alex Sergent and Isaiah Brooks, both of Covington, Kentucky.

 Benjamin John Thomas, Jr., 83, of Wilburton, OK, passed away Friday, May 22nd, at Jack C. Montgomery VA Center, Muskogee,  County. 

Benjamin was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on August 29, 1931, a son of the late Lucille (Brandt) and Benjamin John Thomas, Sr.

He was self enployed store clerk.

He served in the U.S. Army. 

He was the husband of Shirley  (Walden) Thomas. On June 12, 1959, they were married at Wilburton, Oklahoma. 

Benjamin is  survived by 
two daughters, Sharon, wife of  Trent Sharp, of Fayettville, Arkansas; 
Susan Vaughan, of Wilburton, Oklahoma. 
 

Benjamin is also survived by

 Hazel M. Johnsen, 88, of Wilburton, OK, passed away Saturday, May 16th, at McAlester Regional Hospital, Mcalester, Pittsburg County. 

Hazel was born in , Montana on August 24, 1926, a daughter of the late Theresa (Card) and George  Benson.

She worked as a store clerk.

She was the widow of Elmer  Johnsen. On September 19, 1948, they were married at Ronan, Montana. 

Hazel is  survived by 
a daughter, Karen, wife of  Ted Dalke, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; 
two sons Forrest, husband of  Eva Johnsen, of Ronan, Montana; Michael, husband of  Kathy Johnsen, of Buckley, Washington;

Rosa was born in Jation, Texas on February 23, 1924, a daughter of the late Artie (Vickers) and Emerson Boy Underwood.

She attended First Assembly of God Church Red Oak, OK . 

She was the widow of Loyal  Watkins. On November 2, 1949, they were married at Gainesville, Texas. 

Rosa is  survived by 
a daughter, Sandra, wife of  William Galloway, of Red Oak, Oklahoma; 
two sons Loyal Richard, husband of  Carlene Watkins, of Pahrump, Nevada; Emerson Watkins, of Pahrump, Nevada; 
 

Rosa is also survived by 
a sister, Nettie Sue Faulkner, of Blythe, California.

He worked as a welder.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was the widower of Mayzell  (Collins) White. On August 4, 1964, they were married at Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
