Danny Joe Thornburg

Danny Joe Thornburg[1033].jpg

Danny Joe Thornburg is now with Jesus and with loved ones he has missed greatly. Joe was a beloved follower of Jesus, husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, teacher and friend along with many other cherished roles.

God and family were of great value to Joe and he would speak often about the importance of each. He was always present in big and little moments whenever he could be because it was important for him to be there. He never let the busyness of life distract him from the day to day connection he had built with family and faith…many times it was making a phone call, dropping by or sharing a meal just to see how you were doing and to share in some jesting and banter. He believed in the power of prayer. He stayed in daily communication with the Lord and would lift up in prayer those he loved as well as their needs multiple time each day.

He was a natural teacher and had many great lessons and wisdom that he would impart both inside the classroom and out. He was always there to lend a helping hand whenever anyone was in need. One of the scriptures he would remind you of when things got difficult was from 1 John 4:4. He would personalize it and say “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”

Joe and his wife Joyce have been married for forty-two years. They have two daughters, Amanda Thornburg and Emily Thornburg, and one granddaughter, J.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held in McAlester at his church, Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church, on Thursday, October 29th at 2:00 pm. Social distancing and face masks will be required. A private graveside service will follow for immediate family only.
