Margaret Sue Kuykendall (Muse)

Margaret Kuykendall peacefully went home to our Lord on December 13th, 2021 at the age of 87. A devout Christian, she loved serving faithfully in God’s church and found fulfillment and joy in helping others.  She was loved tremendously by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Born in Leflore, Oklahoma, Margaret spent much of her life in Southeastern Oklahoma and grew up in the Red Oak / Leflore areas.  In 1955 she married her childhood sweetheart, Jack Woodruff, and they made their home in Newcastle, Oklahoma while Jack worked at the FAA at Will Rogers Airport.  Margaret spent most of her life as a homemaker taking care of her children and household, and they retired to Red Oak prior to Jack’s passing.  In 2014 Margaret remarried, and survived her second husband, Gerl Kuykendall, also of Red Oak.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, William Nolen Muse and Clemmie A. (Meeks) Muse of Red Oak, Oklahoma, her sister, Weta (Muse) Womack and brother Billy Gene Muse. Surviving siblings include Fern (Muse) Duncan of Wilburton, Oklahoma, Glen Muse of Mustang, Oklahoma and Jim Muse of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

She is survived by her son, Anthony “Tony” Woodruff and wife Anna of Lexington, Oklahoma and daughter Susan (Woodruff) Wood & husband Keith of Eufaula, Oklahoma.  4 grandchildren, Chris Wood, Lauren Edwards, Lindsey Swift and Re’Anna McCracken, and 4 great grandchildren.

Margaret loved people and never met a stranger. She always enjoyed visiting friends and relatives. Her chili beans were always a hit at family reunions and get-togethers, and she never had any leftovers.  She faithfully attended the Free Will Baptist church in Red Oak, Oklahoma.  She enjoyed singing hymns at church and was part of a gospel singing group for many years. Margaret was the Treasurer and a long-time supporter of the Long Prairie Community Center, an old schoolhouse known as “Punkin Center.”  She along with others from the community held many fundraisers to help generate funds for the rebuilding, restoration, and operational expenses of the building.

In later years Margaret could be found having lunch and playing dominoes at the Red Oak Community Center. Before her health began to deteriorate, she loved being outside and could often be found tending to her flowers and garden, hunting for arrowheads, and fishing.
