Mavis Joyce Evans

Mavis Joyce Evans went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2022.

She was born on July 21, 1933, in Wilburton Oklahoma. She married Dayton Evans when she was 16 on August 8, 1949. Together they had two children: Joyce and Gary. She was a beautician by trade.

Mavis had a gracious heart that loved God and her family. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She volunteered her time at clothing rooms, hospitals and nursing homes where, as a beautician, she made women feel beautiful at a time and in a place they needed it most.

She enjoyed her family, her friends, humming birds, cheese, cloths, hot peppers, crocheting, garage sales, and the color pink.

She was a fighter. She survived through The Great Depression, Tuberculosis, Tick Fever, and Breast Cancer and never complained.

She was generous with her family and her friends. She was also more than a bit sassy (if you know you know).

Even though our hearts are shattered, our souls rejoice as she would remind us that this is not a period but merely a comma. So, join us in saying “Congratulations on a life well lived and well loved. We will see you when we are called home.”

Mavis Evans is preceded in death by her husband, Dayton R.L. Moses Evans; her son, Gary Dayton Evans; her brothers: Perry Jeff Cathey and Jimmie Dale Cathey; her father, Jeff Cathey; and her mother, Eathel May Cathey. She leaves behind her daughter, Joyce Ann Beck and her husband, Rick Beck; her grandson, Laramie Shane Beck; her granddaughter, Shiloh Moriah Beck-Renes and her husband, Brian Renes; her sister, Brenda Thrash; and her brothers: Rex Cathey, Joe Cathey, and Chub Cathey.

She asked that she be cremated and a memorial service not be held. Instead, we are to watch out for one another and donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
