Ramona Pauline (Peters) Allen

Submitted by Family:

Ramona Pauline (Peters) Allen went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 21, 2015. Ramona was born in the small community of Seven Oaks, outside of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, on August 23, 1939, the second child of Pluma (Barnes) Peters Cantrell and Grady Peters. At the age of 11, Ramona accepted Christ as her Savior at a revival meeting. After graduating from Sallisaw High School in 1956, she attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. During this time she met the love of her life at a BSU hayride. In February of 1959, Delmer Allen asked Ramona "the fatal question". They were married on August 9, 1959. Their dream was to spread the gospel as foreign missionaries. This dream was to be delayed for several years. Ramona graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Secretarial Training and minors in Business Administration and Math. She worked as a secretary for various companies and organizations.

In 1975, she received her teaching certification from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.

She became a Business teacher for Wilburton High School. During her teaching career she belonged to many professional organizations. She received the "Outstanding Oklahoma Business Educator Award" in 1992. She was an exemplary teacher and was committed to her students, school and community.

After retiring, she and Delmer realized their dream to serve as missionaries overseas and worked in the United Arab Emirates and India. Ramona was also involved extensively in the Women’s Missionary Union and taught Sunday School to children of all ages.

Ramona was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. Spending time with her granddaughter was a "special delight". She was a wonderful aunt as well and seemed to always know the right thing to say to encourage those who knew her. She was a great model for what a Christian woman should be.

While trying to recover from open heart surgery, she and Delmer shared their 56th wedding anniversary in the Oklahoma Heart Hospital. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and now is in the Presence of the Lord she so willingly served.

She is survived by her husband, Delmer L. Allen; daughter, Charity Buxton and husband, Michael of Edmond, Oklahoma; son, Timothy Allen and wife, Vickie of McAlester, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Victoria Allen; brother, Joe Peters and wife Trudy of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; sister, Judy Limore and husband Jack of Muldrow, Oklahoma; sister, Dora McGowan and husband Jack, of Tucson, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
