In Memory of Larry Gean



James Larry Gean of Wilburton, Oklahoma died Thursday, January 7, 2021 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born May 10, 1941 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Clyde and Edith Gean. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He graduated from WHS in 1959. Shortly after graduation he joined the Army and served seventeen years with the OK National Guard, 45th Infantry, The “Thunderbirds.”

He married Patricia Anderson and they had four children: Patty, Peggy, Jayme, and Clint. He taught carpentry at Claremore High School for ten years. He also had his own framing business and built many homes in the Claremore area.

In 1980, he married Ann (Buse) Botello. He and Ann had one daughter, Meggan. He moved back home to Wilburton and served as Wilburton’s Chief of Police from 1984-1993. He then went to work for the Latimer County Sheriff’s Dept.

An avid fisherman, Larry landed his biggest catch, a 12 lb large mouth bass at Wilburton’s City Lake in 1999.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ann of the home; sister, Charlotte Holt of Wilburton; Children: Patty Smith & husband Larry of Claremore, Peggy Lewin & Keith of New York, Jayme Gean of Claremore, Clint Gean of Claremore, Meggan Settle & Wendell of Wilburton, and Chad Botello and Nicole of Fort Smith, Arkansas; 19 grandchildren: Shally Bruce & Jamie, Tasia Smith, Clayton Sipes, Corey Sipes & Adriana Phillips, Ethan Gean, Kinley Gean, Chelsie Gean, Parker Lamb, Riley Lamb, Brennan Lamb, Jake Hobbs, Alyssa Botello, Mason Botello, Farrah Botello, Bella Botello, Nikita Botello, Benaiah Settle, Gabe Settle, and Kaylie Settle; 4 great Grandchildren: Jackson Bruce, Maddie Bruce, Evy Smith, and Cammile Denton; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; special friends: Darla Hood, Morgan Padgett, Amy Loyd, Sandy Hamilton, Scott Horstman, the staff at Heartland Hospice, members of the USMC 1/7th Charley Co. 1st Battalion, his “adopted Sons”’; his best friend that he loved like a brother, Wayne Dick; his “fur” babies: Roscoe, Sister, Sugar; and classmates of WHS class of 1959.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde & Edith Gean; grandparents, Oren & Mollie Claborn and Sydney Jack & Annie (Boren) Gean; son, Anthony Botello; and great grandson, Ryan Eli Bruce.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Waldrop Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Waldrop Funeral Home.

Pallbearers: Chad Botello, Larry Smith, Wendell Settle, Steve Newsom, George Royce, Gary Rosebure, and his grandchildren.
