Janice Ruth Johnston, age 84, of Wilburton, Oklahoma,, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Latimer Nursing Home, of Wilburton, Oklahoma. 

Janice was born in Clayton, Oklahoma on December 26, 1931, a daughter of the late Neoma (Wickersham) and James  Bryan.

She worked as a school teacher.  Janice attended the  Panola Baptist Church, of  Panola, Oklahoma . 

Janice is  survived by:
Son:  Mitchell Johnston, of Wilburton, Oklahoma.
Daughter/Son-In-Law:  Brenda & Richard Gatchell, of Ft. Davis, Texas.
Brother/Sister-In-Law:  James & Wanda Bryan, of Sperry, Oklahoma. 
Sisters-In-Law:  Ruth Bryan of Clayton, Oklahoma; Helen Bryan, of Clayton, Oklahoma.  
Several nieces & nephews.  
She is also survived by Grandchildren: Rebecca Gatchell, of Hawaii and Bryan Gatchell, of Germany.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

Laverne V. (Tommie) Holbird, age 87, of Woodhaven, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Applewood Nursing Home, of Woodhaven. 

Tommie was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on November 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Cordelia (Smith) and Murl  McCoy.

Tommie was a  homemaker.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, of  Krebs, Oklahoma . 
 
She was the widow of Lester H. Holbird. On December 24, 1947, they were married at Ft. Smith, Arkansas.  Lester Holbird passed away November 19, 1983. 

Tommie  is  survived by: 
Daughters/Sons-In-Law:  Thelma Laverne &  James Forrest, of Brighton, Michigan; Connie Rose & Doug Kaye, of Edmond, Oklahoma. 
Nephew:  George Donald (Mike) Bambeck, of Wilburton, Oklahoma
Grandchildren:  Benjamin James & Tamara Forrest, or Grosse Ile, Michigan; Jamie Laverne & Vincent Mileto, of Brighton, Michigan; Thomas Wesley & Cassie Kaye of Edmond, Oklahoma; Cindy Rose & Erik Carlson, of Edmond, Oklahoma.  
Great Grandchildren:  Olivia & Liam of Grosse Ile, Michigan; Danielle, Lauren, and Teddy of, Brighton, Michigan; Gracelynn and Coleman, both of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Helen was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on September 28, 1937, a daughter of the late Fern (Goodwin) and Casey  Jones.

Helen was a  homemaker.  She was a member of Highbridge Baptist Church, of  Wilburton, Oklahoma. 

Helen was the wife of Sid  Smith. On August 2, 1982, they were married at Poteau, Oklahoma. 

Helen is  survived by:
Husband: Sid Smith, of the home. 
Daughter/Son-In-Law:  Cindee & Terry Blankenship, of Wilburton, Oklahoma. 
Son/Daughter-In-Law: John & Kelley Collums, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas.

Darla Nicole Stewart, age 28, of Wilburton, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016 at her residence of Wilburton.

Darla was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on March 9, 1988, a daughter of Debra (Crabtree) Lawson and Marlin Zaste.

Darla was a  homemaker.

Darla is survived by:
Father:  Marlin Zaste, of Wilburton, Oklahoma. 
Mother:  Debra Lawson, of the home.
Daughter:  Lillyann Mae Shepherd, of the home.
Son: Jarrod Allan Stewart, of the home.

Wanda June Maxey, age 88, of Wilburton, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the McAlester Regional Hospital, of McAlester, Oklahoma. 

Wanda was born in Cravens, Oklahoma on May 11, 1928, a daughter of the late Dora (Smith) and Nathan  Colwell.

She was the widow of Billy Dean  Maxey, the love of her life. On June 15, 1946, they were married at Wilburton, Oklahoma.  Wanda was a wonderful homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, of Wilburton, Oklahoma.   She was also a member of the Eastern Star of Red Oak, Oklahoma and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. 

Wanda is  survived by:
Daughters/Son-In-Law:  Charlotte & Woody Abernathy, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; Melody Maxey, of Wilburton, Oklahoma. 
Nephew: Bob & Marylee Colwell, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Grandchildren, Stacey Abernathy, of Ft. Myers, Florida; John & Kim Patterson, of Cumming, Georgia, Shelley & Eric Brinkley of, Louiseville, Texas; grandson, Todd & Kelly Abernathy, of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Mikie & Anjie Mussett, of Valliant, Oklahoma; grandson, Jeremy Shane Mussett, of Valliant, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Allison & Mike Roets, of Stillwater, Oklahoma.  
Wanda is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and expecting one great great grandson.

Gerl W. Kuykendall, age 75, of Red Oak, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center, Muskogee, Oklahoma. 

Gerl was born in Red Oak, Oklahoma on March 3, 1941, a son of the late Bess (Adams) and Lee  Kuykendall.

He worked as a Transport Director at Red Oak Public School, of  Red Oak, Oklahoma.

Gerl was a member of North Rock Creek Baptist Church, of  Red Oak, Oklahoma.  He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. 

Gerl was the husband of Margaret  (Muse) Kuykendall. On July 14, 2014, they were married at Wilburton, Oklahoma. 

Gerl is survived by:
Wife: Margaret Kuykendall, of the home.
Brothers/Sister-In-Law: Bob Kuykendall, of Red Oak, Oklahoma; Bill & Ruth Kuykendall, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. 
 
Gerl was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 2 sisters.

Jimmy Gene Kittrell, age 80, of Wilburton, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the McAlester Regional Hospital, of McAlester, Oklahoma. 

Jimmy was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on March 25, 1936, a son of the late Ruby (Dehart) and James  Kittrell.

Jimmy worked as a truck driver and he was of the Baptist faith.

Jimmy is  survived by:

Son/Daughter-In-Law:  Beryne &  Valery Kittrell, of Wyoming.
He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren .

Mary was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 8, 1945, a daughter of the late Mildred (Merrick) and John  Duncan.

She was the wife of Truman Roberts. On June 24, 1961, they were married at Wagoner, Oklahoma. 

Mary worked as a nurses aid and she attended Southside Baptist Church.

Mary is  survived by:

Husband:  Truman Roberts, of the home. 

Daughters/Sons-In-Law:  Sharon Roberts, of the home; Sherry Reagan, of McAlester, Oklahoma;

In Memory Of  Thurman Leroy Phelps, Sr.

Thurman Leroy Phelps, Sr., age 88, of McAlester, OK, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at the  Beare Manor Nursing Home, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma. 

Thurman was born in Red Oak, Oklahoma on February 11, 1928, a son of the late Mryle (Carter) and David A. Phelps.

Thurman worked as a truck driver.  He served in the U.S. Army in WW II. He was a member of the VFW #3649 of Wilburton, Oklahoma and a member of the DAV.

He was the widower of Edith Mae (Gill) Phelps. On December 22, 1945, they were married at Wilburton, Oklahoma. 

Thurman is  survived by: 

Daughters/Son-In-Law: Thelma McCullough, of Union City, Oklahoma; Carolyn Coil, of Wilburton, Oklahoma; Mary & Dale Breeding, of Heavener, Oklahoma. 

Sons/Daughters-In-Law: Walter & Betty Phelps, of McAlester, Oklahoma; Thurman Leroy & Jo Phelps, Jr., of Wilburton, Oklahoma; Ronald & Tedra Joan Phelps, of Wilburton, Oklahoma.

Mary was of the Baptist faith.  She worked as a homemaker.

She was the wife of Albert  Prock. On February 16, 1981, they were married at Gainesville, Texas.
